In early 2024, the British Academy convened three workshop events that were aimed at generating dialogue around, and to provide a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to SHAPE researchers' (Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People, the Environment and the Economy) access to online data from digital media companies.

The workshop series forms part of the British Academy’s Digital Society policy programme, which draws upon the SHAPE disciplines to explore the ways in which digital technologies, tools, and practices shape and are shaped by our society, and to address the questions of what makes for a good digital society and how policymakers can navigate the digital society in the coming decade.
