About

The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network was delighted to host the National Postdoctoral Conference on Thursday, 18 September 2025, at the British Academy in London. The main event ran from 09:00 to 17:00, followed by a drink’s reception from 17:00 to 19:00.

This free event was open to ECRs from SHAPE and STEM disciplines.

The conference aims to celebrate, unite, and empower postdoctoral researchers from across the UK, with a strong focus on SHAPE disciplines while actively engaging participants from STEM fields. It provides a vibrant platform to explore the postdoc journey, foster interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaborations, and identify shared challenges and opportunities for ECRs across these diverse disciplines.

The event emphasised building synergies between SHAPE and STEM, highlighting opportunities for collaboration and guidance on navigating career pathways in both fields. Key topics included research culture, interdisciplinary partnerships, career development, leadership, publishing, careers beyond academia, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and the evolving role of AI in research.

The full timetable, including detailed information on individual events and speakers, is available in the Conference Programme.
