Social and cultural infrastructure for people and policy: discussion papers

Published in May 2024, this collection of nine discussion papers considers social and cultural infrastructure from a range of disciplinary perspectives. Social and cultural infrastructure refers to the spaces, services and structures that support the quality of life of a nation, region, city or local community.

Each discussion paper engages with the overarching question of how policy interventions can support the role of social and cultural infrastructure in strengthening the UK’s social and cultural fabric. The collection encompasses detailed case studies on a wide range of social and cultural infrastructures, covering areas including sports infrastructure, community business, and heritage, and themes varying from the role of social and cultural infrastructure in superdiverse societies to governance frameworks for digital social and cultural infrastructure.
