Chief Executive and Fellows of the British Academy recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours

The Chief Executive of the British Academy, Alun Evans, and four Fellows of the British Academy were recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for their contribution to scholarship and national life.
Chief Executive of the British Academy, Alun Evans, received a CBE for services to scholarship.
Four Fellows of the British Academy were also recognised for their contribution to the humanities and social sciences:
- Professor Mary Beard OBE received a damehood for services to the Study of Classical Civilisation
- Professor Paul Preston CBE received a knighthood for services to UK/Spain relations
- Professor Simon Schama CBE received a knighthood for services to History
- Professor Carole Hillenbrand OBE received a CBE for services to the Understanding of Islamic History.
President of the British Academy, Professor Sir David Cannadine, said: “It is marvellous news that four Fellows and our Chief Executive have been recognised and honoured in this way, and I offer my most delighted congratulations to them all.”
