Leading Humanities and Social Sciences scholars recognised in 2026 King’s New Year Honours

Two Fellows of the British Academy have been conferred with Public Honours in the New Year 2026 Public Honours List in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the humanities and social sciences:

  • Professor Wendy Carlin FBA, Professor of Economics at University College London, is made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for services to Economics. Professor Carlin was elected as a Fellow of the British Academy in 2023.
  • Professor Andrew Steptoe FBA, Professor of Psychology and Epidemiology at University College London, is made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to Behavioural Science. Professor Steptoe was elected as a Fellow of the British Academy in 2021.
