Classical Antiquity

This section brings together Fellows who specialise in classical antiquity.

Focus of this section

Classical antiquity brings together scholars working on the Greek and Roman worlds in antiquity, their languages, literature, culture, history, philosophy and archaeology (these being the principal subdisciplines of classics), but also any other aspect of their world including science, technology, engineering and medicine. There is strong overlap with several other Sections: ancient philosophers may belong both to this Section and to Philosophy; Greek and Roman archaeologists may also belong to Archaeology, students of ancient religions including Christianity to Theology and Religious Studies. The boundary between late antiquity and Medieval Studies is disputed and constantly crossed.

Section chair
