Professor Jenny Cheshire FBA

Summary

Jenny Cheshire has been Professor of Linguistics at Queen Mary University of London since 1996, having previously been Professor of English Linguistics at the University of Fribourg and the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland. She has a PhD from the University of Reading. She has also taught Linguistics at the University of Bath, the University of Reading, Birkbeck, University of London and the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. In 2001 and 2008 she served on the RAE Linguistics panel and in 2014 on the REF Modern Languages and Linguistics panel. In 2003, 2006 and 2012 she was a member of the New Zealand PBRF Humanities and Law panel. Since 2014 she has been Editor-in-chief of the CUP journal Language in Society. She has co-directed ESRC, ANR and EU-funded research projects on language variation and change in the UK and, most recently, in Paris (http://www.mle-mpf.bbk.ac.uk/Home.html).
