Lord Acton was involved in the foundation of the British Academy and was one of those proposed to be a founding Fellow of the British Academy, but he never became a Fellow because he died (in June 1902) before the Academy received its Royal Charter (in August 1902); see ‘A Documentary Account of the Foundation of the British Academy’, pp. 2 and 13.
