Examining how technical developments are affecting the prosecution of warfare itself, McCauley examines the increased impetus to use AI within strategic, operational and tactical contexts. The increased adoption of AI tools in decision support systems, he argues has the potential to fundamentally alter calculations about violence and targeting and thus the norms and thresholds of warfare, with serious escalatory and ethical consequences.
