Field

International Human Rights Law

Under the guidance of Programme Members Dr Sheila Varadan and Dr Claas Kirchhelle, Ms Wendy Boucrot is exploring the extent to which international human rights law might be strategically leveraged to address the threat of human-induced antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and to pursue damages, interim remedies, and reparations for conduct that has negatively impacted microbial environments and created reservoirs for AMR. She will focus specifically on the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, a human right recognised universally by the UN General Assembly in 2022, and its interlinkages with environmental law. Wendy is also working closely with Programme Member Dr Marina Joubert and her team on the communications and advocacy work of the Working Group. As part of this work, she is assisting the Group with 'unpacking' the evolving meaning of Just Transition and its applicability to AMR.
