Academics in South Sudan and Northern Uganda struggle to establish connections that allow them to be mentored or increase their ability to publish in high impact journals. In South Sudan in particular, but also in northern Uganda, a sustained lack of funding for higher education means that there has been little investment in research and publishing. Both universities are heavily reliant on funding from students’ fees as government funding is limited. This has forced the universities to focus on teaching at the expense of research and writing. These workshops are designed to promote the importance of research and publication in South Sudan and Northern Uganda. This is intended to increase scholarship on the Global South by those from the Global South.
