Dr Isabella Jackson

Isabella Jackson is Assistant Professor in Chinese History at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. For the duration of her Visiting Fellowship she is hosted by the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.

Dr Jackson is the author of Shaping Modern Shanghai: Colonialism in China’s Global City (Cambridge University Press, 2017) and co-editor (with Robert Bickers) of Treaty Ports in Modern China: Law, Land and Power (Routledge, 2016).


Her Visiting Fellowship is enabling her to collaborate with Dr Andrea Janku on a new project examining changing responses to child slavery in 20th century China, using the rich missionary archive and Chinese newspaper holdings at the SOAS Library and related materials in other London libraries and The National Archives.
