Since the ‘Arab Spring’ ignited global attention, there has been much interest in the role of digital media platforms and their potential to mobilise social and political change. In India, the past decade has also been marked by various instances of popular unrest around issues of corruption, ethnicity, gender and sexuality intersecting with and reshaping a wider political field. However, the role of media industries, social media platforms and user practices in the Indian context remains unexamined. This project seeks to contribute to ongoing scholarly and public effort to place digital mediation at the centre of debates on culture and politics in the 21st century.
