Our project examines how coastal communities in Pemba, Unguja and Mafia are affected by and are adapting to climate change effects. Contributing to the delivery of COP28 Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, as well as informing national policy for fisheries management and marine conservation, it actively seeks female perspectives recognising these are under-represented in national policy. It will: curate talking-head videos derived from semi structured interviews to give voice to local experiences, conduct artist-led workshops with women, co-produce an educational comic that foregrounds their perspectives and identifies mechanisms for support and empowerment; and co-create an object that embodies community perspectives and articulates their hopes and fears for the future. Project outputs will be showcased at the Zanzibar International Film Festival, and on local TV stations. and will provide a focal point to inform policy decisions related to fisheries management in Tanzania, increasing community resilience and developing strategies to promote gender equality.
