Our research aims to improve gender equity and social inclusion in climate change and health policies and decision-making processes in Nepal for effective and inclusive climate action. While the inclusion of women and marginalised groups in policy formation and decision-making is integral to effective climate governance and thus climate action, there are numerous barriers limiting meaningful inclusion and gender is inadequately considered. We will conduct transdisciplinary, participatory, and scalable policy-relevant research on the barriers to gender and socially inclusive climate policy and action, utilising creative methods such as photovoice and storytelling to understand and communicate the experiences of marginalised women in two sites in Nepal. In equitable partnership with marginalised women and policy makers, we will then develop and pilot strategies to overcome these. We will focus on three core aspects of gender inclusive policy: intersectional gender analysis of existing policy, engagement of women, and gender inclusive policy development.
