Project

In this project, we propose two in-person interactive workshops and two follow-up online sessions to provide a cutting-edge research training and development opportunity for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in West Africa. The in-person workshops which will take place at the university of Lome and Central University in Togo and Sierra Leone in 2024 involve thirty participants selected from Togo, Sierra Leone and neighbouring French and English-speaking countries in West Africa have the following goals: (i) equip participants with the skills necessary to publish in peer-reviewed journals and write grant proposals; (ii) provide personalised mentorship, and feedback on their submitted manuscripts from experienced academics and journal editors, (iii) provide participants with opportunities to network and collaborate with their colleagues, leading scholars and journal editors to produce impactful outputs over the period of two years. (iv) provide follow-up and sustained support to participants for their submissions to international journals after the workshop.

Workshop Team: Professor Agyenim Boateng, Leeds Beckett University; Professor Mawuli Kodjovi Couchoro, University of Lome; Dr Raphael Akamavi, University of Birmingham; Professor Bob Conteh, Central University; Dr Adobea Yaa Owusu, University of Ghana; Professor Mark Saunders, University of Birmingham; Professor Donna Chambers, Northumbria University.
