There is a wealth of crucial empirical urban research being undertaken at Nigerian universities, yet it struggles to find a wide audience. Researchers and students in Nigeria usually follow a report-style format that is not compatible with the requirements of international journals, and further, does not allow for rigorous intellectual reflections that can contribute to current critical debates. These workshops will provide training and mentorship to a cohort of twelve promising urban researchers from all over Nigeria, providing a structured opportunity to develop a high-quality journal article. Over two workshops, leading UK urban scholars will develop the cohort’s writing and critical thinking skills as well as provide training in publishing and funding. The cohort will also benefit from contributions from journal editors and senior Nigerian scholars. The workshops will provide a firm platform for career development for the cohort, and work to enrich scholarship in African Urban Studies.
