The National Academies release a briefing for parliamentary candidates

Whether it is Brexit, or climate change, healthcare or the economy, all of the major issues that voters care about are underpinned by science, research and innovation.  Our briefing for parliamentary candidates looks at the top issues for voters according to polling data and outlines why we need to support our research and innovation system to tackle them.

General Election hustings on science, technology, research and innovation 


On Tuesday 19 November, the British Academy – along with the other National Academies, the Campaign for Science and Engineering and the Foundation for Science and Technology - is co-hosting a General Election hustings. You can register now to attend. The hustings will also be live-streamed and you can tweet us the questions you wish to put to candidates using the hashtag #GE2019Hustings.


The panel will feature: 


  • Conservatives – Stephen Metcalfe – Former chair of the Science and Technology Committee 

  • Labour – Chi Onwurah – Science and Innovation spokesperson 

  • Lib Dem – Sam Gyimah – Lib Dem BEIS spokesperson and former Science Minister
