Leaders in the Humanities and Social Sciences recognised in 2025 New Year Honours

Four Fellows of the British Academy have been conferred with Public Honours in the New Year 2025 Public Honours List in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the humanities and social sciences.
They are:
- Professor Louise Archer Ker, Karl Mannheim Chair, Professor of Sociology of Education, University College London is made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to Education
- Professor Mary Susanna Morgan, Historian and Philosopher of Economics is made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire For services to the Economics Profession and to Social Science
- Professor Timothy Insoll, Al-Qasimi Professor of African and Islamic Archaeology is made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire For services to Archaeology in Bahrain and UK/Bahrain relations
- Eleanor Sharpston Hon FBA KC, Yorke Distinguished Visiting Fellow. Lately Arthur Goodhart Visiting Professor in Legal Science. Formerly Advocate General, European Court of Justice. Awarded a Dame Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George for services to Justice and to the Education of Law in the UK and Europe
Congratulations also to Professor Nandini Das who was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to Interdisciplinary Research in the Humanities and to Public Engagement. Her book Courting India: England, Mughal India and the Origins of Empire won the British Academy Book Prize for Global Cultural Understanding in 2023.
