Desmond King elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Fellow of the British Academy Professor Desmond King has been elected as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He joins the 2017 class of some of the world’s most accomplished scholars, scientists, writers, artists, as well as civic, business, and philanthropic leaders.
Professor King is Andrew W Mellon Professor of American Government at the University of Oxford. He specialises in the study of the American state in US executive politics, and race and politics in American political development.
Founded in 1780, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences is one of the country’s oldest learned societies and independent policy research centers. It convenes leaders from the academic, business, and government sectors to respond to national and global challenges.
The new class will be inducted at a ceremony on 7 October in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
