Chair of the Federal Reserve speaks at the British Academy

Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Honorable Janet Yellen, spoke at the British Academy yesterday, 27 June 2017.


She joined Lord Stern in conversation for the British Academy President’s Lecture, Lord Stern’s final engagement as President of the British Academy before the role passes to Professor Sir David Cannadine.

Chair Yellen and Lord Stern discussed a wide range of global economic issues, including economic modelling, financial regulation, and the financial crash of 2008.


Sworn in on 3 February 2014, Janet Yellen is Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System – having served as Vice Chair from 2010 to 2014. Previously, she was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco; Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President Bill Clinton; and business professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. She was elected an Honorary Fellow of the British Academy in 2016.


Lord Stern said: “It is a privilege to welcome Chair Yellen to the British Academy, to which she was elected an Honorary Fellow last year. It was fascinating to hear from one of the world’s great representatives of the social sciences, and to listen to her insights on some of the key topics of economic debate in recent years.”
