British Academy Summer Showcase nominated for award
8 Nov 2018
A British Academy event has been nominated for a communications award.
The British Academy Summer Showcase 2018, a public event which ran from 22-23 June and featured 15 exhibits showcasing Academy-funded work in the arts, humanities and social sciences, is on the shortlist for CorpsComms magazine’s ‘Best Live Event’ award – part of the CorpComms Awards 2018 – along with events by GWR, Marie Curie and Siemens.
The three-day Showcase attracted over 1,700 visitors, including members of the public, journalists and policy-makers. The academics behind the 15 projects on display were on hand throughout the Showcase to talk about their research, lead hands-on activities and give short pop-up talks, while a special programme for schools allowed students to find out more about studying the humanities and social sciences at a higher level.
Hundreds of people also attended a Friday Night Late View of the Showcase with special activities including themed stand-up comedy, edible perfume inspired by the research on display, and live musical performances.
Alun Evans, Chief Executive of the British Academy, said:
“This is terrific news. The British Academy exists to champion the humanities and social sciences, which are not just vital to our culture and society, but also contribute to our economic success. The Summer Showcase was a new and innovative initiative and it was a great pleasure to open our doors to the public.
“Congratulations to the Events team, who worked so hard for so many months to make the Showcase such a roaring success, and to all the British Academy staff members, award-holders, Fellows, and friends who volunteered their time over the three days.”
The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 29 November at The Troxy, East London.
