British Academy Rising Star Engagement Awards – 2017 award holders

12 Apr 2017

The British Academy Rising Star Engagement Awards (BARSEAs) list for 2017 has now been published – a list that includes some of the most promising and talented academic minds in the country.

The British Academy’s Rising Star Engagement Awards (BARSEAs), which are held for a 12-month period and offer funding of up to £15,000, are designed to enable established early career academics to actively engage in the work of the Academy, as well as enhancing their own skills and career development through the organisation of events, training, and mentoring activities for a wide range of other early career researchers.

As part of this year’s programme, the award holders will be undertaking research in a wide range of different areas. These include:

  • Children and politics: violence, citizenship and political reeducation in the 20th century

  • Revising the geography of modern World histories

  • Trading partners: rethinking the history of Britain's global trade networks in a post-Brexit age

  • Cold hard cash and warm fuzzy feels: exploring the ethics of fundraising for the arts

In order to meet the eligibility criteria, applications are invited from early career scholars within ten years of the award of their doctorate, and who are ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom.

Candidates must also be able to demonstrate their academic credentials to be leaders in research through suitable marks of esteem awarded prior to the submission of the application. Applicants are required to have a Fellow of the British Academy (FBA) champion their candidacy. The FBA Champion’s support is an endorsement of both the applicant and the proposed project.
