Laslett, Thomas Peter Ruffell, 1915-2001

Extract relating to military intelligence work:

After graduation he spent eighteen months in research in the History Faculty [at Cambridge] before joining the Fleet Air Arm in 1940. Of the men who appeared in his degree photograph, Peter subsequently noted, seven did not survive the war. He himself had little confidence in doing so after the horrors of a Murmansk convoy. But later he was taken out of active service to learn Japanese for naval intelligence, working at Bletchley Park and afterwards in Washington as an expert on Japan.
