Getting Published: Challenges and Opportunities

This proposed workshop considers itself part of the 'Nairobi Process', a British Academy-led initiative focusing on the challenges of undertaking research in the social sciences and the humanities in Africa. It follows the successful format pioneered by ASAUK's writing workshop programmes. It will involve bringing together journal editors and experienced researchers to work together with early career researchers in 'writing' and mentoring sessions tailored to support the latter in producing publishable journal articles. The journal editors and experienced researchers will be drawn from a number of disciplines, but will all be familiar with the critical challenges facing early career researchers in Africa. The workshop intends to see through to publication some of the participants' research outputs. It also aims to build intra-Africa and international academic networks and structures to facilitate research collaboration and to provide continued support to Africa-based scholars.
