Is it permissible to request costs for consultancy fees under the ODA capacity strengthening call and, if so, does this count against the staffing costs budget?

You may include consultancy fees in your budget. However, please note that the consultancy fees would come out of your staffing costs budget.

Please note that projects should provide a clear, co-designed, action-oriented programme of work. The Academy would not expect to see staff costs of more than 60% of the award value unless strongly justified.

Who should submit Due Diligence documentation?

Only non-UK organisations applying as the proposal lead are required to submit the due diligence documents.

Is it possible for travel costs to go to institutions who are not co-leads but will be supporting or taking part in project activities?

You are welcome to include travel costs for additional institutions, but these costs should be fully justified in the application form.

The call text states that “The awards, which can be between two institutions or involve a wider consortia of institutions across different countries, are aimed at research offices and research management functions, including HR, finance, and legal operations”. Should we understand from this that the call is only for the research management office, or can a researcher or academic be included?

Although this call is aimed primarily at those working in research offices and adjacent research support functions, we recognise that some academics and researchers may also be heavily involved in research management activities. With this in mind, we are open to receiving applications from academics, but they will need to set out in their personal statement and proposal how their current position meets our eligibility criteria and how it will enable them to deliver on the aims and objectives of the call.

Yes, previous Research Management Capacity Strengthening award holders are eligible to apply for this call, provided the previous award and reporting has been completed, and the proposed project is distinct from the earlier award.
