The British Academy has been funded by the UK Government, Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT, formerly known as BEIS) to support the dual-route Innovation Fellowships scheme.
Both routes require an established researcher to work with a UK-based partner organisation on a specified policy or societal challenge that contributes to the aims of the scheme for a period of up to one year.
Route A of the scheme is researcher-led, through which applicants must apply with a partner organisation which they have identified.
Route B of the scheme is policy-lead, through which applicants will work with one of our named policy partners. The three strands of the scheme are the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Central govt and Local Policy Innovation Partnership (LPIP).
Past policy partners have included; FCDO,Office for National Statistics (ONS), the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), Cabinet Office (CO); His Majesty’s Treasury (HMT), the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Department for Education (DfE), and the Local Policy Innovation Partnership (LPIP) Strategic Coordination Hub, based at the City-Region Economic Development Institute (City-REDI) at the University of Birmingham.
