Join us to discover the winner of the 2024 British Academy Book Prize.

Awarded annually since 2013, the British Academy’s £25,000 non-fiction book prize recognises work that searches for truth and reason in difficult places, and shines a light on the connections and divisions that shape cultural identity worldwide.

The six shortlisted books are:

  • Material World: A Substantial Story of Our Past and Future by Ed Conway
  • Smoke and Ashes: Opium's Hidden Histories by Amitav Ghosh
  • The Secret Lives of Numbers: A Global History of Mathematics & Its Unsung Trailblazers by Kate Kitagawa and Timothy Revell
  • The Tame and the Wild: People and Animals after 1492 by Marcy Norton
  • Language City: The Fight to Preserve Endangered Mother Tongues by Ross Perlin
  • Divided: Racism, Medicine and Why We Need to Decolonise Healthcare by Annabel Sowemimo

You can find out more about the shortlisted books, and order a copy, via the London Review Bookshop.
