Join Professor Julia Lovell FBA as she leads a panel of experts delving into the captivating world of 19th-century empires, uncovering some of the connections between the once expansive empires of the 1800s.
Professor Yang-Wen Zheng discusses the Qing dynasty at the end of its rule, while author Diana Darke will focus on cultural aspects of the Ottoman Empire and its connections to the British, Russian and Chinese empires during this era.
Professor Dominic Lieven FBA will provide insights into Imperial Russia as both a Eurasian empire and a European great power, while Professor Robert Bickers will explore the relationship between the British Empire and China during that time.
This is a free online event delivered by The British Museum via Zoom.
This event is part of the public programme complementing The British Museum's Citi exhibition China's hidden century (open until 8 October) and is presented in partnership with the British Museum
