Information on ECRN Events
Thank you for your interest in the Early Career Researcher Network's events programme. General information about our programme can be found below.
Registration
ECRN Events programme
All ECR Network events are exclusively for ECR Network members. Therefore you must be a member to sign up unless you have been personally invited by a member of the British Academy ECR Network team.
Some ECRN events are for all Network members, whereas some will only be for members of a specific Regional Cluster e.g. Scotland Cluster. This will be indicated either in the event title itself e.g. Scotland Cluster: Writing Retreat, or in the event description e.g. “This event is for Scotland Cluster ECRs only”. If you sign-up to an event that is not for your Regional Cluster, your ticket booking will be cancelled.
Find out about upcoming events
Upcoming ECR Network events are listed on the ECR Network Online Community Platform and in the British Academy portal. You will also receive a weekly round-up email at the end of each week which details all upcoming events for the next 2 months.
You must register to attend an ECR Network event. All ECR Network events require advance registration. Make sure to pick up a ticket as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Joining a waitlist for fully booked events
If the allocated number of tickets for an event have all been sold, a waitlist will open. In order to join the waitlist, please follow the instructions on the individual event webpage. If a place becomes available, tickets will be allocated to those on the waitlist in order that people joined, with notification sent via email.
Ticketing and costs
All ECR Network events are free to attend.
Each ECR Network member can only pick up one free ticket, so anyone you were hoping to attend the event with will need to register for their own ticket too.
Cancellations
Cancelling your place
If you can no longer attend an ECRN event, please contact the ECRN team at [email protected] so that your place can be reallocated to another ECRN member.
Cancellation by the British Academy
In the unlikely event of the British Academy having to cancel any ECRN events, we will endeavour to give event attendees four weeks’ notice if cancellation relates to low ticket bookings. If cancellation relates to speaker illness or extraordinary circumstances beyond our control, the Academy will strive to give attendees as much notice as is feasibly possible.

Event locations
Some of our events take place at The British Academy, 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AH. However, we also hold many events at a range of institutions across the UK so please check the individual event webpage for the correct details.
Arrival times
The start time of the event will be listed on each individual webpage so please look out for the details.
Food and refreshments
All our in-person events have catering provided free of charge. Please ensure you indicate your dietary requirements when booking your ticket or write to us at [email protected].
Filming and photography
Filming and/or photography takes place at some ECRN events. Footage and images are used to promote the work of the British Academy and to further the reach of the Network. Where filming and/or photography will be taking place, clear signage will be displayed at the event. Please notify staff on arrival if you do not wish to be included in any footage or photography.
Monitoring attendance at in-person events
We monitor attendance at all ECR Network events as we report on the number of active ECR Network members to our funders. There are also a number of opportunities in the Network that require you to be an active member (Seed Funding and Development Fund 2) so please make sure you check in once you arrive at an event so we can mark your attendance on your profile.
Accessibility at in-person events
We are committed to ensuring that the widest number of people can enjoy our events. Please ensure you indicate any accessibility requirements you need when booking your ticket. A member of the ECRN team will reach out to you to ensure the venue has the appropriate arrangements in place.
Attending an online event
Event platform
All ECR Network online events take place on Zoom. The meeting link will be provided as part of the event booking process.
Asking questions
Please check the agenda for each individual event for details on if there is a designated time for questions. The chat function will usually be open, so you can use this to ask any questions throughout. Each event will be different, so listen out to for instructions during the event.
Connectivity support
If your video or sound is patchy or breaking up, close any other programmes or apps using the internet on your PC, mobile or tablet. Try turning Wi-Fi off on other devices (for example your phone or other computers or tablets), and if possible, move closer to the Wi-Fi router.
Recordings of online events
We aim to record our events subject to the permission of those involved. Available recordings can be found via the online community platform.
