Communications support for British Academy-funded researchers

If you are a British Academy-funded researcher and would like support to publicise your research, find out how to get in touch with the communications team.

Press

The British Academy has a small Media and Public Affairs team, whose role it is to engage the media and influential stakeholders – including Parliamentarians from across the Houses of Parliament – with the Academy’s work and connect them with fresh and pressing insights from our disciplines.

The team has a good track record of working with our funded researchers to package and present their findings to journalists and parliamentary stakeholders and can support with media training and coaching.

Press staff at the British Academy are looking for research to pitch to the media which:

  • Provides new findings, data, outcomes, opinions or recommendations
  • May be relevant to a topic currently in the news
  • Has a human-interest angle, e.g. real-life anecdotes, case studies or a personal story
  • Has interesting images or video - especially of previously unseen or rarely seen things

For more information, get in touch with the Media & Public Affairs team at [email protected].

Blogs

If you are a researcher and your project has received British Academy funding, the British Academy’s Blog may provide a good opportunity to present your ideas to the public. The British Academy’s Content team commissions blogs on a case-by-case basis, working with researchers to produce engaging, informative pieces for a general, non-specialist audience.

If you have an idea for a blog based on your research, please send a brief outline of your suggested topic to Josh Richman, Deputy Head of Content and Production ([email protected]) and Myra Mansoor, Content and Production Manager ([email protected]).

Please note that we cannot accept first drafts before we have discussed the topic with you, as our blogs are commissioned and crafted according to the Academy’s commissioning guidelines.

Social media

If you are a British Academy-funded researcher and you feel that your project would work well on social media, please send a brief outline with links, when possible, to Monika Radojevic, Social Media Manager ([email protected]).

Social media requests are actioned on a case-by-case basis in conjunction with the capacity of the Digital team, external context, Academy campaigns and whether the content is suitable for the Academy’s general audiences. If you work has been commissioned for a blog, the social media team will share it on relevant social media platforms.

The British Academy is unable to guarantee that all requests will be accepted, due to the high volume of social media requests we receive.
