About the library

The library at the British Academy holds approximately 13,000 books related to the humanities and social sciences.

The British Academy library

The vast majority of the books in the British Academy library have either been written by our Fellows or by our research award-holders.

The library is organised according to the Academy’s academic Sections and, within each Section, the books have been arranged alphabetically by author.

Fellows are most welcome to borrow any of the books. Members of the general public are welcome to consult the books by appointment.

Library booksPlease note that the library catalogue is a work in progress and that it is being constantly updated as more books are added to the collection.
