Dr José Neves
José Neves is Assistant Professor at the Department of History of NOVA-FCSH, Portugal. For the duration of his Visiting Fellowship he is hosted by Goldsmiths, University of London.
Since the start of his career, Dr Neves has been interested in exploring the ways Marxism has been used by nationalism. He has conducted extensive research on the Portuguese communist movement, analysing the political, economic and cultural implications of the intersections between nation and class.
By focusing on anticolonial dynamics related to the history of Portuguese colonialism, during his time in the UK Dr Neves will contribute to widening the geographical scope of the research agenda developed by Goldsmiths’ Centre for Postcolonial Studies.
We foster international collaboration in the humanities and social sciences, and promote the sharing of international perspectives on global challenges.
