Dr Jonathan Corpus Ong
Jonathan Corpus Ong is Associate Professor in Global Digital Media at the University of Massachusetts, USA. For the duration of his Visiting Fellowship he is hosted by the University of London.
Moving beyond the current focus on social media manipulation’s impact on recent United States elections, Dr Ong's project aims to critically examine practices in populist communication and networked disinformation production in a global context.
Drawing from comparative case studies in Southeast Asia and Europe, it rejects a one-size-fits-all approach to addressing information disorders and develops a new concept of 'global disinformation architectures' that can guide the design of culturally appropriate disinformation interventions.
Dr Ong has previously published the report ‘Architects of Networked Disinformation’, examining the political trolling industry in the Philippines.
We foster international collaboration in the humanities and social sciences, and promote the sharing of international perspectives on global challenges.
