To open the British Academy’s fourth biennial Literature Week, author, critic and academic Marina Warner gives her essential introduction to the theme of fairy tales and folk tales. Following a mini-lecture, she sits down with award-winning author Marcus Sedgwick to discuss fairy tales as both a genre and a form, as well as the nature of modern storytelling.

She is currently chair of the Man Booker International Prize 2015 judging panel and her latest publication Once upon a time: a short history of fairytale explores the history and cultural impact of fairy tales and folk tales.
Marcus Sedgwick, author and former Writer in Residence at Bath Spa University. His work has been heavily inspired by the magic of other worlds. His latest book Ghosts of Heaven was shortlisted for the 2014 Costa Children’s Book Award.
