The medievalist Giles Constable was the author or editor of more than 20 books in the area of medieval religious and intellectual history concerning, among other subjects, the origins of monastic tithes, Peter the Venerable, the people and power of Byzantium, medieval religious and social thought, the reformation of the 12th century, Renaissance Florence as seen through the case of Antonio Rinaldeschi, 12th-century crusading, the history of Cluny and the 14th-century crusading propagandist William of Adam. A work on the California Gold Rush appeared in 2015.
