Urban challenges: Toward real and lasting social innovation

On 31 October 2014, in celebration of World Cities Day 2014, the British Academy held a seminar on ‘Social Innovation and Creative Responses to Global Urban Challenges’, which highlighted the role and importance of social innovation in contemporary urban change and ‘smart’ liveable city spaces. One of the speakers, Adam Greenfield, discusses two recent examples of social innovation – in New York and Madrid.
