Michael (Mick) Moran was W.J.M. McKenzie Professor of Government at the University of Manchester from 1990 until his retirement in 2011. At Manchester, he was variously both Head of Department and Faculty Dean. He was a member of the RAE Politics and International Relations panel in 2001 and of the equivalent subpanel in 2008. He edited two of the major UK academic politics journals – Political Studies (1993–9) and Government and Opposition (2000–6). Moran was one of Britain’s foremost analysts of the modern regulatory state, making particularly important contributions in The Politics of Banking (1989) and The British Regulatory State (2003).
