Programme part of

Policy and research

The British Academy’s policy and research work is dedicated to applying that insight to policy issues for public benefit and societal wellbeing.

More about the programme

Big data, data-driven technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) are developing rapidly, with many potential benefits for individuals, communities, societies and economies. These developments bring with them a wide range of questions about how these technologies can be harnessed to best enable human flourishing.

This programme of work includes projects on data governance and on the impact of AI on the future of work. Both challenge us to think about how societies interact with technology, drawing on the expertise of the Academy to answer big questions about the impact of technology on people, cultures and societies.
