Professor Jacqueline Rose FBA joins 2018 Man Booker Prize panel of judges

A British Academy Fellow has joined the panel of judges for the 2018 Man Booker Prize.

Professor Jacqueline Rose FBA, who is Co-Director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities, will sit on the panel for the literary fiction prize alongside philosopher Kwame Anthony Appiah, crime writer Val McDermid, cultural critic Leo Robson and artist and graphic novelist Leanne Shapton.

Gaby Wood, literary director of the Booker Prize Foundation, said: "This year’s judging panel is not only stellar in its distinction, its members have a stunningly broad range of tastes and enthusiasms too. They are all long-standing champions of creative work who will be open to any excellent novel that may come their way, regardless of genre or geography."

The judging panel will be looking for the best novel of the year, selected from entries published in the UK between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018, with the shortlist to be announced in July.

Professor Rose, who was elected to the Academy Fellowship in 2006, is internationally known for her writing on feminism, psychoanalysis, literature and the politics and ideology of Israel-Palestine.

Her books include Sexuality in the Field of Vision (1986), Verso Radical Thinkers (2006), The Haunting of Sylvia Plath (1991), States of Fantasy (1996), The Question of Zion (2005), The Last Resistance (2007), Proust Among the Nations – from Dreyfus to the Middle East (2012) and the novel Albertine (2001). 

The Man Booker Prize will mark its 50^th anniversary this year with a range of celebrations.
