Fellows of the British Academy recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours

Six Fellows of the British Academy were recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for their contribution to scholarship and national life.


The following scholars were recognised for their contribution to the humanities and social sciences:


  • Professor Sarah Broadie received an OBE for services to Classical Philosophy

  • Professor Rana Mitter received an OBE for services to Education

  • Professor Hector MacQueen received a CBE for services to Legal Scholarship

  • Professor Anna Vignoles received a CBE for services to Social Sciences

  • Professor Richard Carwardine has been appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George for services to the study of American History in the UK and the US

  • Professor Ian Hodder has been appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George for services to Archaeology and UK-Turkey relations

President of the British Academy, Professor Sir David Cannadine, said: “I offer my warmest congratulations to all those Fellows whose distinguished work has been recognised and honoured in this way. I am most delighted by this marvellous news.”
