The British Academy’s Literature Week takes place this week

The British Academy's fourth biennial Literature Week takes place this week (11-17 May). It explores the magical world of fairy tales and folk tales, literary genres which transcend cultural, historical and national boundaries.

Highlights include author and critic Marina Warner in conversation with award-winning author Marcus Sedgwick, a film screening of Pan's Labyrinth introduced by Professor Ian Christie and a British Academy Late, which features pop-up lectures, drop-in sessions and live storytelling.

To launch the theme of Literature Week the British Academy, in partnership with Londonist, asked Londoners to write new fairy tales for modern London. The winners were:

• Mud Man by Melaina Barnes


• Waterloo Sunrise by James Clark


• The Last Train by Rocío Bégué


• The Fingernail Fairy by Tracy Kuhn

These stories have been published in an exclusive Literature Week short story collection.
