British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship
Dr Claire Haworth's Postdoctoral Fellowship was awarded to invesigate ‘positive genetics’ - the genetic and environmental origins of human success, wellbeing and flourishing.
Focusing on adolescent twins, Dr Haworth explored how nature (our genes) and nurture (our environmental experiences) create individual differences in mental wellbeing and whether this wellbeing can be improved.
Dr Haworth’s research showed for the first time that genetic heritage is not a barrier to improving wellbeing, and that environmental factors can make a difference to all.
She was invited to present her research at the Department of Health, which lead to a collaboration looking to study how her research could be turned into policies that might improve mental health in the UK.
