Focus of this section
'Modern history' encompasses the history of the whole world since c.1850 and up to the present day. There are inevitably overlaps with the early modern history Section, but also with Sections that cover the history of modern Africa, Asia and the Middle East, modern economic history and the history of international relations. All aspects of history are covered: social, cultural, economic, political, international and transnational, intellectual.
