Economics and Economic History

This section brings together Fellows who specialise in economics and economic history.

Focus of this section

The totality of work of the individual Fellows of this section is diverse and hard to summarise. Practicing economists like the definition of their subject 'economics is what economists do', that is usually attributed to Jacob Steiner. This is because the great variety of issues that they study – including laboratory experiments, crime, trade and monetary policy – is unified by a set of common tools and approaches. Economic history is a similarly broad endeavour: studying the economic phenomena of the past with the statistical and analytic tools of economics, but influenced by the qualitative approaches of historians.
