Summer Showcase Private View 2025

Discover a world of ideas

Join us for an exclusive preview of the 2025 Summer Showcase, the British Academy’s free annual festival of ideas, on Thursday 19 June (5-8pm).

Meet the eight exhibiting teams of researchers funded by the British Academy who will be bringing their work to life in research areas ranging from archaeology to international relations. These exhibits will take you back to an ancient Roman laundry, through the Great Plague of 1665-6, across the fashion of 1800s ballrooms, around an iconic Birmingham bus route and into the soundscape and lights of Antarctica’s Aurora Australis. Digital exhibits will explore the clothing of Muslim men at Jummah (Friday prayers), as well as a VR reimagining of a baroque chapel.

As part of this event, British-Turkish novelist Elif Shafak will be receiving the President's Medal, as well as discussing her latest novel ‘There are Rivers in the Sky’.

Meanwhile 10 Minute Talks – presented by British Academy-funded researchers, Fellows and members of our Early Career Researcher Network – will open windows into their wide-ranging expertise.

The programme takes over every room of our newly relaunched home of 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, while guided and self-guided tours will offer insights into its Grade I-listed status, our new state-of-the-art lower ground spaces and our world-class art collection.

This event is by invitation only. Please RSVP via the invitation in your inbox.
