The British Academy Summer Showcase 2020: call for exhibitors

We are seeking creative proposals to exhibit at the 2020 Summer Showcase.

Our free festival of ideas for curious minds celebrates the ground-breaking research that is shaping our world. The Showcase presents an exciting opportunity to share your research with audiences, through engaging and fun public engagement exhibits and activities, fully supported by the British Academy team. Meet everyone from schoolchildren and families to lifelong learners and young professionals, and share your research with influencers, funders, policy makers, senior staff working for cultural organisations, university Vice-Chancellors and press at the Private View.

Why should you apply?

  • Inspire the next generation. In 2019, over 40% of our visitors were under 35 and over 200 14-18 year olds attended the schools day. The Showcase is therefore ideal for reaching a younger audience.
  • Raise your profile. The Showcase will be promoted widely through digital channels and in the national media – successful exhibitors will reach many thousands more people than just those who attend the event.
  • Get public opinions. Find out what people think about your research and gain valuable feedback to feed into your work. We also share with you the results of our public evaluation, making it easy to see your immediate impact.
  • Our help at every stage. Using our experience, we help and advise you from start to finish, as well as support you with public engagement training, which is available to all exhibitors.

About you

We are searching for fun and innovative ways to communicate research to the public, created by inspiring academics who are passionate and enthusiastic about sharing their research. The call is open to current award holders (funded by the British Academy or the British International Research Institutes) whose work is sufficiently advanced, or past award holders still in the process of disseminating their research findings.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted through FlexiGrant, via the British Academy’s website, choosing the 'Summer Showcase 2020' application form, listed under 'Available Grants'. Before submitting your application please consult the guidelines for applicants. If you have any questions about the application process or the Summer Showcase, please email summershowcase@thebritishacademy.ac.uk.
