Planning your visit to the British Academy Summer Showcase

Opening hours

The British Academy will be open on Friday 21 June from 10:00 – 16:00 and 18:30 – 21:00, and on Saturday 22 June from 11:00 – 17:00. Please note that random bag checks will be in operation. 

The Summer Showcase is free to attend and does not require advance registration unless you plan to attend in a group of eight people or more or visit as a school or college group (please see below).

Talks and activities

Come along to a special late-night view of the Summer Showcase, a free festival of ideas for curious minds. Explore the exhibits, enjoy talks and performances or simply relax with a drink at the bar.

Programme to be added online in May 2019. Free, drop-in. All activities are on a first come, first served basis.

Saturday 22 June, 11:00-17:00

The British Academy is located at 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH.

Nearest public transport:
National rail stations: Charing Cross and Waterloo.
Tube stations: Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus, and Embankment.
Frequent buses stop nearby at Trafalgar Square, Haymarket, and Piccadilly Circus.

Parking information:
Westminster City Council’s Trafalgar Square car park is nearby (please see below for disabled parking spaces). Bicycle racks are located in the vicinity of the Duke of York monument.
You can use Transport for London to plan your journey.

Group bookings

To make a group booking (for eight or more people) or to find out further information, please email us. School and college groups are invited to visit on Friday 21 June. Please visit our Schools page for further information. 


All rooms used for the Summer Showcase are accessible. Facilities at the British Academy include lift access from street level into the building, an accessible toilet on the ground floor, lift access to the event spaces on level 1, and induction loops in two of our rooms.

Information regarding disabled parking spaces in Westminster can be found on the City of Westminster’s website. Visitors who require extra assistance or specialist facilities can notify the Events Team in advance by email or phone +44 (0)20 7969 5316.

Food and drink

A café will be open in our Reading Room. A selection of teas, coffees and cakes will be available.


A free cloakroom is located just inside the main entrance.


Toilets are located downstairs on the Mezzanine level. Two accessible toilets are available on the Ground Floor. Baby changing facilities are also available on the Ground Floor.
