Dr Thor Berger

Dr. Thor Berger is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Lund University, Sweden. During his time as a British Academy International Visiting Fellow, Dr. Berger will be working closely with researchers at the Oxford Martin School to enhance our understanding of how technological advances are reshaping the world of work.

Dr. Berger's research examines how the proliferation of online platforms is affecting the UK labour market, analysing how the rise of “gig work” affects the earnings and subjective well-being of workers. Dr. Berger's research also touches upon issues of intergenerational mobility by asking whether the pervasive job polarization, that is a key feature of labour markets at least since the 1980s, has reduced the potential for economic and social advancement for children from low- and middle-income families.
