Koch read History and Political Science at Heidelberg before taking a Diploma in Art and Design at Goldsmiths College, London. She established her studio in London in 1982 and has specialised in her distinctive and simple spherical clay vessels known for their carbon patterning caused by the smoke-firing in sawdust. The vessels are waxed after being smoke-fired.
